Vamp

Harmony & Theory

A short chord pattern repeated over and over, often to extend a section or wait for a cue.

Why it matters

Bands vamp constantly — at the end of songs, before a solo, waiting for a singer to start the next verse.

Used in a sentence

“Vamp on the one chord till I cue the next section.”
