Musician's Phrasebook
Four on the Floor
A steady beat where the kick drum hits every quarter note — 1, 2, 3, 4, no gaps in between.
Why it matters
It's the backbone of disco, house, and techno, and shows up constantly in pop. If someone calls it out, they mean: keep it relentless, don't syncopate the kick.
Used in a sentence
“Keep the verse four on the floor, then open it up in the chorus.”
